Robert Griffin III Must Be Considered Better Pro Prospect Than Andrew Luck

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Robert Griffin III's meteoric rise to stardom shouldn't stop until he surpasses Andrew Luck as the best NFL prospect in this draft.

While Luck is the safer pick, he has experience in a pro system and a lack of injury concerns, he does not have as high a ceiling as Griffin.

RG III's potential is nearly limitless. For an intense and thorough breakdown of his game check out Matt Miller's take on this exciting prospect.

Now, read on to see why RG III is the best pro prospect in this draft.

Mobility

Griffin has elite athleticism. It is not quite Michael Vick like, but it is close, and Griffin has a few skills that will allow him to utilize this athleticism to a greater degree than Vick.

Griffin's instincts in the pocket are uncanny. He can feel the rush. He knows when to stand tall in the pocket and when to break out of it. And when he does break it, he is amazingly dangerous.

RG III has the ability to make people miss when he is running the ball. However, this is not his most dangerous quality. He is deadly accurate when on the move. He has tremendous balance and arm strength.

He also does a great job of keeping his eyes downfield. That means when he breaks down defenses by running out of the pocket he can kill them with accurate downfield passes.

This is going to allow Griffin to be successful in any offense.

And while Luck has solid athleticism, he is not close to the explosiveness that Griffin routinely displays.

Concerns Over the System

One of the big reasons Luck is commonly listed as a superior prospect to Griffin is the fact that he has been in a pro style system. This has allowed Luck the opportunity to display his ability to read defenses and go through his progressions.

While Griffin has not had the same chance to showcase this ability, it does not mean it is not there. Griffin had a lot of control of the offense at the line of scrimmage. This meant he had to make good pre-snap reads. And that is something Griffin excels in.

That is something that will serve him well in the NFL. The most important reads are done before the ball is snapped.

While he will have to get used to going through his progressions, RG III clearly has the football IQ to pull this off. This is evident in the fact that he threw only six interceptions this season.

The Final Word

Both of these young QBs are amazing prospects with bright futures. They feature big arms, superb accuracy and prolific college results.

The biggest advantage that Luck has over Griffin is his size.

Luck is a prototypical 6'4" while Griffin is listed at what might be a generous 6'2". However, Griffin neutralizes this advantage with his elite athleticism. And that athleticism is what pushes RG III over the top.

It means that every snap has the potential of turning into a game changing big play.

While Andrew Luck may be the safer pick, he is not a better prospect.
