Ricky Rubio: Minnesota Timberwolves' Young Star Proves He Is Ready to Start

Alex KayJun 5, 2018

Ricky Rubio went from being the savior of Minnesota Timberwolves basketball when he was drafted, to presumed bust when he refused to come over to the NBA, to being a savior  again in the span of two years.

The 21-year-old phenom has gotten off to a great start to his rookie campaign and is bringing a lot of hope for the organization that has stockpiled young talent over the past few seasons.

Last night, against the deep and experienced Chicago Bulls, Rubio played a team-high 36 minutes, off of the bench no less, and scored 13 points and dished 12 assists while chipping in four steals and four rebounds.

While the team did not win, they can now be sure that they have a legitimate superstar in the making following his awe-inspiring performance.

Minnesota Star Tribune columnist Jim Souhan eloquently put that Rubio is,

"

“The rare subject of hype who turns out to be better than advertised. He's the rare NBA player who prides himself on unselfishness. He is the rare athlete who succeeds because of savvy and intelligence rather than athletic ability."

"

The Spaniard has an uncanny knack for finding teammates in easy position to score, as well as the knowledge of when to take advantage of his defender’s urge to play the pass and blow by for a bucket.

Minnesota has never had a great point guard like Rubio running the show, usually ending up with selfish players like Stephon Marbury, Sebastian Telfair, Sam Cassell and bums like Johnny Flynn and Marko Jaric.

Now that the Timberwolves have finally found a franchise player to run the show, they need to get him as much experience and floor time as possible.

Coach Rick Adelman must take Ricky off the bench and insert him in the starting lineup in order to overcome their notoriously slow starts this season.

Rubio has proven he can handle the duties and certainly is the best point man on the roster, so give him the job he deserves as a starter.
