NFL Playoff Predictions: Divisional Round Games That Will Be Nail-Biters

Adam SpencerJun 5, 2018

It's the NFL playoffs. Every game should be a nail-biter, right?

That would be great, but that's not necessarily the case. Some teams, like the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons, just aren't prepared for the playoffs.

But, this weekend's slate of games appears to be a good one. Three of the four games should go down to the wire (the New Orleans Saints should blow out the San Francisco 49ers), leading to plenty of excitement.

Let's take a look at the three games that should go down to the wire now.

New York Giants at Green Bay Packers

The Packers defense has been horrible this season, ranked last in the NFL. They can't stop the run or the pass. The only thing they can do is force turnovers.

But, with a veteran team like the Giants, turnovers might be hard to come by.

And if it's cold and windy at Lambeau Field, the Packers' passing attack might be slowed down.

If this game turns into a battle of the running backs, the Giants should win easily.

As it stands now, I see Aaron Rodgers doing just enough to get the Packers through to the next round.

Prediction: Packers 24, Giants 20

Houston Texans at Baltimore Ravens

This matchup will feature a quarterback who is inconsistent against a third-string rookie quarterback.

Joe Flacco and T.J. Yates will be the ones to decide this game, since both defenses are stout and both running backs (Arian Foster and Ray Rice) are elite.

Whoever makes the fewest mistakes will earn his team a victory. Yates has played well so far this season, but Flacco has the experience.

He won't play a great game, but Flacco will do just enough to make sure the Ravens don't blow their first home playoff game in a long time.

Prediction: Ravens 17, Texans 13

Denver Broncos at New England Patriots

This game is going to be a lot closer than everyone thinks it will be. After all, no one gave Tim Tebow and the Broncos much of a chance to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend.

The Patriots defense is horrendous. Tebow and the Broncos should be able to run all over them. And, if Tebow has another good passing effort like he did against the Steelers, this game will turn into a nail-biter.

The Broncos defense is much, much better than New England's and should be able to put pressure on Tom Brady for most of the game.

The only problem for Denver is that they don't have anyone who can match up with Rob Gronkowski. They'll need to find a way to slow him down if they want to pull off the upset.

Ultimately, Brady and the Pats offense will be able to do just enough to win this game, but it isn't a sure-fire victory like many people think.

Prediction: Patriots 27, Broncos 24
