Report: NY Jets Players Want Peyton Manning, Not Mark Sanchez

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

The dysfunctional family known as the New York Jets is starting to show a lot of cracks in the foundation. According to a report in the New York Daily News, players are turning against each other, particularly Mark Sanchez, and want him traded away to free up the quarterback position for Peyton Manning

This report comes out just one week after the Jets lost to Miami in the regular-season finale to miss out on the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Since that loss, Santonio Holmes has been accused of quitting on the team by his teammates, and Greg McElroy said the team is selfish

Anonymous players told the Daily News that they don't believe Sanchez is strong enough mentally to handle New York.

"

“They don’t want to be truthful with him,” one prominent player said of the way that the organization has handled Sanchez. “They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth.”

"

What makes them so sure that Manning can "handle" New York? He has only played in Indianapolis, and he has had his problems in the postseason. If he was playing in New York, he would have gotten destroyed, so who is to say he can handle it?

This franchise is in serious trouble. I suppose it was only a matter of time considering how cocky and arrogant Rex Ryan is, but this team is throwing anyone and everyone it can under the bus.

What purpose does it serve? What if they aren't able to make a deal for Manning? There is no law that says the Jets get the first shot at proposing a trade to the Colts, nor is there any indication they have anything the Colts want.

They might be able to trade draft picks, but none of their players are going to be attractive because they are hanging teammates out to dry instead of taking responsibility for their failures as a group.

What do they do with Sanchez? It doesn't sound like they can bring him back with his teammates selling him out, but who is going to take him if he is so terrible?

The Jets have bigger problems than Sanchez's quarterback rating right now, and they should worry about fixing those before they talk about trying to deal for Manning or any other quarterback.
