Broncos vs. Patriots: Tom Brady Will Put an End to Tebow Mania

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

Tim Tebow isn't going down without a fight.

It's a lesson learned the hard way by the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend and now the New England Patriots will attempt to put an end to Tebow's surprising run. It's a streak that includes eight wins and several fourth-quarter comebacks.

Going head-to-head with Tom Brady and emerging victorious is completely different story, however. When the two teams played last month, the Patriots stopped Denver at a 16-7 lead before turning the tide en route to a blowout of Tebow and Co.

In that game, Brady threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns while completing 68 percent of his passes. It was a game plan executed with the usual Brady precision, further illustrating why he's one of the best quarterbacks the league has ever seen.

While the Broncos defense has made major strides since the season began, it's still a shaky unit that can be exploited by the NFL's top offenses. The Patriots certainly fit into that category and simply have too many weapons for Denver to deal with.

Most notably, the dynamic tight end duo of Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez.

The tandem caught 13 passes for over 180 yards in the first meeting. They should be in line for another big game because the Broncos need to rush their linebackers to put some semblance of pressure on Brady, which will open up more room to operate for his main weapons.

If there's any good news for the Broncos, it's that the Patriots defense is nothing special either. That should give them a chance to keep things close for a while and perhaps even give Tebow a chance to work some late-game magic.

All told, however, New England is just too potent on offense for Denver to keep up for 60 minutes. Brady has been through these high-pressure situations plenty of times during his career, whereas Tebow is just getting his feet wet.

The extra week off will have given the Patriots defense some time to fix some of its issues. That should lead to more than enough stops for Brady to write the final chapter of Tebow's season.

It's been a good run to be sure, but it will end in Foxboro on Saturday night.
