2012 NFL Draft: Nick Toon's Draft Stock Will Plummet with Foot Injury
Wisconsin WR Nick Toon just saw his draft stock fall from a second-third round projection to a late-round pick. The talented receiver has suffered a "significant" foot injury.
The depressing news of his injury circulated on Twitter.
Foot injuries are especially troublesome to wide receivers. They are constantly applying maximum pressure to their feet in order to execute their high speed cuts to run crisp routes and gain separation from corners.
Given the word significant, it is reasonable to expect Toon to be on the shelf for the scouting combine, or any pro days leading up to the draft.
Toon's Draft Stock
The 6'3" receiver led the Badgers in receptions this season with 64. He turned those 64 catches into 926 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He has good size, ball skills and excellent hands. The big question mark concerning Toon is his athleticism. He lacks elite speed and explosion.
He was already staring at the reality of this relegating him to the second or third round, as he projected to be a possession-type receiver that lacked big play ability.
Now that Toon will not be able to change opinions of his athleticism, or showcase his size in the combine, he is going to be an afterthought come draft time.
Foot injuries have a nasty way of lingering or recurring. This is a big red flag for a receiver, and he does not have the high ceiling that will tempt teams to use a premium pick on him anyway.
Toon is now staring at a fifth round selection. This is a terribly unlucky turn of events for this young player.
