NBA Rumors: Why Dealing Amar'e Stoudemire for Dwight Howard Would Be Genius
The Knicks are struggling, and I'm not surprised. There is a ton of talent, but not the right mix and the wrong head coach.
A report has circulated that Amar'e Stoudemire is being dangled for Dwight Howard. This is the best trade the Knicks could possibly make, and the ripple effect it would have could be enormous.
Not only would they be instantly improving their interior defense, they would be adding depth that is unmatched at the center spot. Assuming Tyson Chandler isn't included, which I would assume he wouldn't be.
The Knicks would likely have to take Hedo Turkoglu's contract back, so to make it work, they may have to include a third team.
Even if the acquisition happened too late to render a title this year, the Knicks would likely fire Mike D'Antoni, but they would be one of the most attractive jobs in the league.
If there is a spot that Phil Jackson would consider coming out of retirement for, it would be this one.
He has already won titles in the West and Midwest; to accomplish the feat on the East Coast for the team he played for would be a huge draw.
Dwight Howard would be landing in the large market he covets, and new energy would be injected in every rivalry the Knicks are apart of. The Knicks vs. Bulls is bigger with Phil Jackson there, opposing his old team, with two Eastern Conference elite squads. The same could be said for Knicks-Lakers games as well.
The Knicks must seek this deal out. If executed, it erases the D'Antoni and Stoudemire missteps.
