WWE: Is Brodus Clay's Funkasaurus Gimmick a Set Up for a Monster Heel Run?

Shalaj LawaniaJun 7, 2018

It's not every day I get to say this, but WWE Creative does deserve credit for surprising all of us with something unpredictable.

With people whining about Zack Ryder not being serious enough for a main event talent and John Cena busy rising above hate, the only form of entertainment comes from Santino Marella these days, ("Wada Baraaaat Garage!") and of course, John Laurinaitis ("I'm not Lil' Jimmy. I'm Big Johnny." *goofy smile*).

Brodus Clay had become a bit of an Internet joke over the past few weeks because of his debut that never happened. The fans who didn't really care much either way used this as another example of WWE Creative's incompetence.

We all expected big, bad Brodus Clay to come out and squash a star who only appears on RAW to get squashed and then taunt the crowd and walk off. We expected a monster.

Instead, we got The Funkasaurus from Planet Funk. From a fan's point of view, that was highly entertaining.

I thought of this when he kept dancing like a goof well into his match: What if this is a way to bring out the monster in him?

They kind of built up on the fact that Brodus Clay was getting annoyed with the weekly delays. This meant he would come out raging with red-hot fury. They made him wait almost six weeks for his debut, and then gave him a gimmick that was undoubtedly stupid for a giant his size and with his look.

What if one day Brodus Clay decides to vent out all his frustration on the management and discards his idiotic Funkasaurus gimmick? That's when his monster heel begins.

A story like Mark Henry's, yes?

I'm not complaining if he keeps up with this gimmick for a while. There's some money Vince can make out of Planet Funk merchandise and he's smart enough to dig into that. We don't need another monster right now, what with Mark Henry and Big Show playing those roles well enough.

But I hope they don't title him as a denizen of Planet Funk for years, and waste his prime time in something silly.

For now he has gimmick, and an entertaining one at that. Which means he won't be sitting out like poor ol' Mason Ryan.
