NFL Playoff Predictions: Can Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees Be Stopped?

Ryan PhillipsJun 5, 2018

Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees have been nothing short of outstanding this season. Both guys have turned in record-breaking years and now both guys are poised to continue dominating in the postseason.

Brees got off to a quick start in the Wild Card Round, as his New Orleans Saints smoked the Detroit Lions 45-28. In that game, all the Purdue product did was complete 33-of-43 passes for 466 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions as his offense posted 626 total yards. Ho-hum.

It was New Orleans' ninth straight win and I don't think anyone would argue that the Saints are playing as well as anyone in the NFL right now. This weekend in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, New Orleans will travel to San Francisco to face the 13-3 49ers. While Jim Harbaugh's team has been excellent this year, I don't think they can stop Brees and the Saints this weekend.

Like Brees, Rodgers has been incredible this year. The Green Bay Packers starting quarterback finished the season completing 343-of-502 passes (68.3 percent) for 4,643 yards, with 45 touchdowns and just six interceptions. The 28-year-old led the NFL in yards per attempt (9.25) and his quarterback rating (122.5) set the single-season record. Rodgers also put up those numbers despite sitting out the final game of the season.

The Cal product led the Packers to a 15-1 record, and has the team on an unbelievable streak during which its has won 21 of its last 22 games.

Bet against either of these guys to lose at your own peril. Brees and Rodgers are playing on another level than everyone else in the league right now. It appears the only thing that could stop either of them would be a matchup with each other. That could be coming in the NFC Championship Game.
