BCS National Championship 2012: Aftermath Will Be More Memorable Than Game

In order for my title to come true, Alabama must defeat LSU, as I predict they will. I believe it is almost impossible for either of these teams to blow the other out, so it will be a close contest.

The defenses, special teams and running games will take center stage. Great, more four-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust football. Well, it depends on what you like. Either way, it won't be memorable action, unless there is some sort of controversial play involved.

Notwithstanding that possibility, we'll be talking about the debate that is sure to rage around another gray area in the BCS. The SEC's dominance brings about the possibilities of more rematches in the BCS title game.

Anytime there are two SEC teams in the top five of the BCS Rankings that play each other in the regular season, this scenario could be recreated. Many fans weren't enthused about seeing these teams play again, as the 9-6 game wasn't easy on the eyes.

If the season series is split, it will always be called in to question: Whose win mattered the most?

The NCAA tells us that every game, every week is a playoff game. If that's true, why was LSU's win not as important as the one I'm predicting for Alabama?

Alabama lost but will still play in the BCS National Championship Game. If LSU loses, it will be runner-ups, even after playing an extra game and winning a meaningless SEC championship over Georgia.

Alabama rested at home, in the second spot, its title game berth secured. LSU played a game, with its title game virtually secured as well, but yet it notched another quality win. This further bolstered its body of work.

The BCS is supposed to be about crowning the best team in college football. When Alabama wins, can we really say the Crimson Tide is unquestionably the best team in the country?

Of course we can't.

Hopefully, this will be the issue that gets the ball rolling towards a change in the BCS system. The BCS has plenty of holes, and an Alabama win will just uncover a new one.

It'll have enthusiasts talking longer than the actual game will.
