2012 NFL Draft: Jeff Demps and the Biggest Late-Round Locks

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

Teams can fill more than their practice squad with their fifth-, sixth- and seventh-round picks of the NFL draft. Players slip through the cracks every single year and make an immediate impact.  Here are four late-round prospects that are locks to make in the league.

4. Chad Diehl (FB, Clemson)

Run-blocking fullbacks are a dying breed in the NFL, but for the teams that still have them, quality personnel is usually cheap to add.

Diehl could provide an upgrade at the position for a run-heavy team. At 6’2”, 265 pounds, he’s a designated blocker and can have the same type of impact as New York Giants’ Henry Hynoski as a rookie.

3. Michael Williams (TE, Alabama)

Williams isn’t going to be a mismatch nightmare for an opposing secondary, but he’ll definitely be an explosive running back’s dream.

At 6’6”, 270 pounds, Williams can seal the edge as a top-notch blocking tight end. He doesn’t have a high ceiling, but he’ll do exactly what his role asks him to: get in the way.

2. Jeff Demps (RB, Florida)

Demps is going to drop in the draft because of a lack of size along with the fact that he wants to enter the Summer Olympics. But at 5’7”, 191 pounds, he’s actually thicker than Chris Johnson who also weighs 191, but at 5’11”.

For someone projected to potentially be a seventh-round pick, he’s just too fast not to make an impact on an offense.

1. DeVier Posey (WR, Ohio St.)

If Posey declared for the draft last season, he would’ve been a second-round selection at the very worst. Instead, he returned to the Buckeyes, traded a couple awards for tattoos and now he’s a fifth-round prospect.

He only recorded 12 receptions this season, but can you blame him with a freshman run-first quarterback throwing him the football?

Throw in the suspension, and Posey wasn't given a fair shot to succeed.
