Liverpool Midfielder Stewart Downing Arrested on Suspicion of Assault

Another Liverpool star is taking some major heat today as Stewart Downing was arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a night club, according to MirrorFootball.

This, of course, fresh off Luis Suarez's eight-game suspension penalty for repeated racial abuse of an opponent during a match. 

Downing was arrested around 1 a.m. on Sunday morning after an altercation at the Cross Keys club on Yarm High Street.

"A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and a 32-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of assault.

"Both are in custody and inquiries are ongoing."

The 27-year-old midfielder has participated in 20 English Premier League games this season and has recorded 46 shots.

Downing was born in Middlesbrough, England which is close to where the incident took place. He has 29 career goals in senior club competition. 

Liverpool is three points behind Chelsea for the final UEFA Champions League top-four position and 14 points behind EPL leaders Manchester City.
