Patriots' Drake Maye 'Excited' to Work with Mike Vrabel, McDaniels After Mayo Exit

Drake Maye will have a new coaching staff around him for Year 2 with the New England Patriots, and the rookie quarterback is "excited" to work with the experienced group.

Maye said he's already spoken with Mike Vrabel and had high praise for the new head coach.

"Yeah, he reached out to me and we got on the phone. He's been awesome," Maye said Friday night at the 2025 Pro Bowl Games, via Sirius XM (h/t NFL.com's Christian Gonzales). "Obviously, a guy who's done it and played in the league and won a Super Bowl, you have a respect of what he's done and seeing what he's done. I think the biggest thing is he's been a head coach and he knows what it's like. So excited to get up to New England and get things going."

Joining Vrabel and Maye in New England is former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels. It's McDaniels' third stint with the Patriots, and Mate is well aware of his past success with the team.

"Coach McDaniels, obviously, what he's done there and the success he's had. Fortunate to be able to have a guy come in who's done it at a high level and learn from him coaching one of the best ever and the best ever, in my opinion, Tom (Brady)," Maye said. "Got a great chance to go back and all those years of film you have in a little database, it's all their play calls and all coach McDaniels' stuff and what he did with Tom. It's fortunate for me to go back and study it up and get ready for this next season."

The new coaching staff in New England will be equipped with a promising quarterback in Maye. The No. 3 overall pick is coming off a season that saw him collect 2,276 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for 421 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 13 games.

With Maye under center, Vrabel and McDaniels will look to get New England moving back in the right direction after struggles following the Bill Belichick and Tom Brady era.
