Alabama vs LSU: 3 Reasons Why Rematch Will Be Better Than Previous Contest

“The Game of the Century” was built up only to fall hard. When Alabama and LSU met for the first time there was almost too much hype. There was no way it was living up to the bill.

This time, however, it will be so much more exciting to the casual fan. There are a few reasons why the 2012 BCS National Championship game will be better than their previous contest.

1. We Will Be Reminded That There is Defense in College Football

I’m probably in the minority, but I enjoyed the first game. College football nowadays is all about shootouts and even I enjoy an old fashioned shootout every now and then again. But I don’t want to watch a shootout every single game, which is what we saw all BCS Bowl season.

It was laughable watching Baylor vs. Washington or West Virginia vs. Clemson because of how horrible the defenses looked.

We saw way too much offense and so little defense. At least we get solid defensive football when LSU and Alabama meet up for Round 2.

Alabama was ranked No. 1 and LSU was ranked No. 2 in points allowed. The Crimson Tide allowed 8.8 points per game and the Tigers allowed 10.5. These are numbers that suggest quality.

They both have first-round NFL talent across the board and we will see that on Monday night. Both schools will prove that defense does win championships.

2. We Can Now Realize That These Two Programs are Unquestionably the Best in the Nation

I understand why people don’t want to see another 9-6 game between Alabama and LSU, but these are the two best teams in the country. Oklahoma State, Stanford and Oregon don’t play nearly enough defense to even compare to Alabama and LSU.

They play in a conference (SEC) that has won five BCS Championships in a row. Their conference is full of more NFL talent than any other conference in the country.

LSU rocked West Virginia by 26 points at their place, they put it to Arkansas and Georgia, they defeated Oregon on a neutral field by 13 points and they defeated Alabama at Tuscaloosa. They did all of this by winning every game but one by double-digit margins.

Alabama won 11 games by double-digit margins. They don’t have the quality wins that LSU has, but they did defeat Arkansas by 24 points and lost to LSU by three in overtime.

These two teams earned this right to play in the championship game.

3. This One’s for All the Marbles

Anytime you add championship implications to something it takes the event to another level. These two programs are the best in the country. Both have first-round NFL talent, great coaching and a rich tradition of winning football.

Their first encounter was full of passion and energy. This one is going to be head-and-shoulders better.
