Video: Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders Top Kiper, Field Yates NFL Mock Draft
Miami quarterback Cam Ward was the first player of the board in the latest 2025 NFL mock draft from ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yates.
Ward was projected to go to the Tennessee Titans with the top spot, while two-way standout Travis Hunter went to the Cleveland Browns with the No. 2 pick. This left quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Hunter's Colorado teammate, available to be slotted to the New York Giants at No. 3.
Next, LSU tackle Will Campbell was projected to the New England Patriots before Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter went to the Jacksonville Jaguars to round out the top five.
Ward is coming off a strong senior season with the Hurricanes, completing 67.2 percent of his passes for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions. The 22-year-old was ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 6 overall player on the latest big board from Bleacher Report's NFL Scouting Department.
While Will Levis is still under contract in Tennessee, his status atop the depth chart is far from assured heading into 2025 after tossing 13 touchdowns while getting picked off 12 times in 12 starts.
Hunter thrived on both sides of the ball for the Buffaloes in 2024, excelling at wide receiver and cornerback before he won Heisman Trophy honors.
Kiper highlighted his versatility, envisioning him playing at either position in the NFL.
"His ball skills, I mean this kid's unbelievable," Kiper said on Thursday (13:00 mark). "Hand-eye coordination, I think he's going to be phenomenal on either side of the ball depending upon where you need him the most."
Sanders falling to No. 3 would likely be a welcome surprise to a Giants team searching for a new quarterback, as he was projected to be taken with the top pick in the most recent mock draft from B/R's NFL Scouting Department.
The 22-year-old made improvements across the board in his second season with Colorado, completing 74 percent of his throws while racking up 4,134 passing yards and 41 total touchdowns. He was also picked off 10 times.
With the first round of the draft starting on April 24, teams still have lots of time to evaluate players and gain a clearer picture of the prospects available. Ward, Hunter and Sanders already seem to be strong candidates to be off the board before the Patriots are on the clock at No. 4, though.
