IMPACT Wrestling: Genesis 2012 Full Card and Predictions
IMPACT Wrestling and Direct Auto Insurance present Genesis, live on pay-per-view this Sunday, January 8.
There are eight matches confirmed for the event. Four of those eight will be championship matches. The World Heavyweight, Tag Team, X-Division and Knockouts Championships will be on the line.
Genesis will also see the return of the always brutal, always entertaining, Monster's Ball match.
The event will be live from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Tune in to see Bobby Roode, James Storm, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Abyss, Bully Ray, Samoa Joe, Matt Morgan, Crimson, Austin Aries, Gail Kim and many more!
Pope vs. Devon
1 of 9This feud took a while to develop, right? Pope and Devon had an odd relationship throughout 2011. Devon hated Pope, Pope liked Devon and his family, soon enough they became tag partners.
Eventually, Pope turned on Devon and brought Devon's kids into his heel turn. Pope will have Devon's kids in his corner during this match, and we have seen them get their hands dirty in recent weeks.
Granted, neither guy was on IMPACT the last two weeks, so I'm interested to see where this storyline goes.
I think "The Pope," D'Angelo Dinero, will win this match. Whether he cheats or gets some help from his congregation, I expect him to go over Devon.
Winner: The Pope
However, it won't be the end of this feud. I expect it to continue into Against All Odds, where I'm hoping it'll end, but I won't be surprised to see this match on the Victory Road or even Lockdown card.
Gunner vs. RVD
2 of 9This was last-minute, right?
This match was added after Al Snow and other TNA agents saved RVD from getting dropped headfirst on some concrete, courtesy of Gunner.
Now, I feel like we have to pay to witness Gunner put an end to RVD.
With rumors of RVD's contract expiring in March and his strong desire to return to the big 'E, it'd be stupid to let him get the win on pay-per-view.
He wants out of the company! DO NOT let him win then!
Winner: Gunner
Besides, Gunner has been built like a monster recently, and he has everybody's favorite manager, Ric Flair, in his corner.
I wouldn't be surprised if Gunner ends up dropping Van Dam on the concrete. I also wouldn't be surprised if Gunner loses by disqualification for that same reason.
Another possible outcome: RVD wins clean. He and Gunner continue to feud into Against All Odds, where we all get the pleasure of watching Gunner take RVD out of TNA.
Knockouts Championship: Mickie James vs. Gail Kim
3 of 9This is a rematch from IMPACT which was a rematch from Final Resolution. Mickie vs. Gail III, here we come.
I see no point in having Mickie win the title. She was a two-time champion in 2011 and she just never really fit into this thing between Karen, Gail and Madison.
I want to say that Gail will win with help from Madison, but now Mickie is friends with Traci Brooks.
What do Mickie and Traci have in common? They hate Gail and Madison.
I'm hoping for door No. 1 in this case. That would be Gail winning with help from Madison.
Winner: still Champion, Gail Kim
Side note: Mickie James had a Knockouts title match against Madison Rayne at Genesis 2011.
Tag Team Championship: Samoa Joe and Magnus vs. Crimson and Matt Morgan
4 of 9Joe and Magnus were one of the most popular teams in the Wild Card Tournament. Now that they won the tournament, they get their prize. A title match.
They have been working nicely as a team in recent weeks, and I do hope they win the titles—but not at Genesis.
You see, this potential feud between the teams is too fun to end now.
I see Morgan and Crimson retaining at Genesis, but it won't be the last time these two teams fight.
Winners: still Champions, Crimson and Matt Morgan
On one of the IMPACTs after Genesis, I'd expect to see Joe and Magnus attack the champs from behind, thus setting up a rematch.
X-Division Championship: Aries vs. Kash vs. Ion vs. Sorensen
5 of 9This match ought to be good.
Aries and Ion were in the four-way at Destination X, and this match looks good.
I can only see Austin Aries or Jesse Sorensen winning this match. More so Aries than Sorensen. It'll go down one of two ways:
1. Aries wins.
2. Sorensen pulls a win out of nowhere.
I believe Aries will win because he's one of the best X-Division wrestlers since the days of AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe.
Winner: still Champion, Austin Aries
No one man in this match can outshine "A Double" in anything, honestly. Aries is the face of the X-Division. He has the in-ring skills, mic skills, charisma, look and attitude to be champion.
I said it before and I'll say it again, the only people that have a believable chance of dethroning Aries is Alex Shelley or Chris Sabin.
Monster's Ball: Abyss vs. Bully Ray
6 of 9I cannot wait to see this one!
Abyss and Bully Ray are two of the roughest, toughest guys in IMPACT today. They're no strangers to the hardcore style.
This match should be fairly easy to call.
If Abyss loses, he's back in Immortal. Wait. Immortal? They're still a group?!
There's no reason why Abyss would lose and rejoin that dead stable. The group died when Hogan left back in October! Why add this stipulation?
Abyss is already in hot water with every member of the crew, and the only logical thing for him to do would be to destroy Immortal from the inside. Destroy the very little that is left of the group.
Winner: Abyss
Don't forget about Scott Steiner in this match. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some classic "Russo booking" by having Steiner win for Bully Ray, then have Abyss destroy Immortal from within.
Note to Russo: Immortal died a while ago. Get over it.
Kurt Angle vs. James Storm
7 of 9I'm looking forward to this one. The co-main event being Storm vs. Angle.
James Storm is one of the best parts of IMPACT Wrestling nowadays. This prediction will also be linked to my thoughts on the main event, so I'll try to make this short.
James Storm hits Last Call and wins. Kurt Angle leaves for a while to go tend to his Olympic training.
The feud between the two ends and Storm is in the running for a Heavyweight Championship match.
Winner: James Storm
World Heavyweight Championship: Jeff Hardy vs. Bobby Roode
8 of 9Bobby Roode is on top of his game. He's another guy that makes you want to tune into IMPACT every single week.
Jeff Hardy is starting to work his way back into my rankings. Certainly not top 10 material, but he's starting to get over with me.
This match has the making of a great main event. It all depends on one person: Jeff Hardy.
Will the new and improved, "resurrected" Jeff Hardy show up? Or will the "Victory Road screw-up" Hardy show up? I'm pretty sure Hardy is back for certain and is clear of drugs, so this could be good.
I have a strange feeling that Hardy will win based on his new-found love with Sting. However, with my previous prediction of James Storm winning, I see Bobby Roode retaining.
Bobby Roode should retain his championship over Jeff Hardy, not cleanly of course, which should set up a three-way for Against All Odds. That being: Storm vs. Hardy vs. Roode. (They're on the poster, so why not?)
Winner: still Champion, Bobby Roode!
The End
9 of 9Yes, you read it right. I think there will be NO title changes at Genesis.
