Alabama vs. LSU: Why Tigers Will Be Even More Dominant Next Season

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

LSU will prove that perfection can be improved.

Les Miles and the Tigers are currently 13-0 on the season, SEC Champions and are primed to become the 2012 BCS National Champions.  Next year, though, they will be even more dominant.

Unlike Alabama, LSU won’t hear their school’s name called every other pick in the 2012 NFL draft.  Morris Claiborne will most likely declare, but other than their junior cornerback, the Tigers aren’t losing many stars.

Michael Ford, Spencer Ware and Alfred Blue are all sophomores, and Kenny Hilliard is a freshman.  Those four halfbacks make up their entire running game, and they’re all returning.

Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee may be seniors, but the most highly sought-after quarterback in the nation in Gunner Kiel committed to the Tigers.  Sure, Jefferson and Lee have had success this season, but dare I say Kiel, who is being compared by Rivals to Peyton Manning, would be an improvement over the inconsistent duo?

Rueben Randle may have decided to skip his senior season to head to the pros early, but Odell Beckham is more than capable of stepping up and filling that No. 1 wide receiver role.  As a true freshman, he finished the regular season second on the team in receiving yards.

On their offensive line, three of their current starters are underclassman, and on the defensive side of the football, six are underclassman.  5-star freshman offensive tackle La’El Collins and wideout Jarvis Landry were buried in the depth chart this season, but they will step up with departing seniors.

LSU may not be the top college represented at this April's draft, but in 2013, Miles might as well be at the podium announcing the selections.

Defensive end Sam Montgomery is a potential top five pick.  Offensive tackle Chris Faulk and cornerback Tyrann Mathieu are both projected to go off the board in the top 15.  Michael Dockers is also a first-round lock, and even more could work their way up draft boards.

If LSU wins the national title this season, we may just witness the second of the first back-to-back BCS championships ever won.
