Bill O'Brien To Take Head Coaching Job at Penn State: Good idea?

Apparently, Penn State has hired New England Patriots' offensive co-ordinator Bill O'Brien to be the replacement for Joe Paterno.

Penn State fans must be pretty annoyed. The guy never went to Penn State. He never played for Penn State. He's not a "Penn State guy". He does not bleed blue and white, has not attended the amazing parties at the Cafe 210 West, or stayed all week at Paternoville - or even ordered pizzas for the students.

But you know what? Isn't NOT having a Penn State man just the thing the program needs? Isn't having someone who comes from outside the program, the problems and Paterno just the thing that the season needs. Whether we like it or not, Penn State is reeking of 'Paterno poison' (or Sandusky s***, as it's also called) and if the Nittany Lions really want to show the NCAA, the boosters and the media that they've changed and want to start over a new leaf, then O'Brien's a great choice.

O'Brien also comes with an impeccable reputation and knows the value of a good education having come from Brown. And he knows his way around college football too, having spent 14 years in the system.

The good thing for the Nittany Lions is that they might actually get a good offence out of it. After all, O'Brien has spent two years coaching a guy called Tom Brady for the Patriots since 2009 - so he might know something about helping quarterbacks with mediocre arms put up sensational numbers.

We can only hope that O'Brien hires Tom Bradley to be the defensive co-ordinator, fires Jay Paterno as quarterbacks coach (he can do the job himself), and uses himself as offensive co-ordinator, getting rid of Galen Hall, who was in charge of one of college football most inept, ugly offenses in 2011. Trust us, we watched most Penn State games, and it was really, really ugly.

Anyway, we wish him the best of luck. And O'Brien might need to get his butt moving on recruiting - or 2012 could be really, really tough.
