Video: Goldberg Says He'll Have WWE Retirement Match in 2025 amid Gunther Rumors

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg announced Saturday that he will have his retirement match in 2025.

Appearing on SEC Network's SEC Nation, Goldberg said he reached an agreement with WWE to wrestle his final match next year:

"Here's the news of the day," Goldberg said. "The news of the day is per three executives: [president] Nick Khan, [executive vice president of talent relations] Chris Legentil and [head of creative] Paul [Triple H] Levesque, in 2025, Goldberg's having his retirement match."

Goldberg noted that no date or event has been chosen for his retirement match, but he hinted heavily at world heavyweight champion Gunther being his opponent, calling him the "frontrunner" to be his "victim."

At Bad Blood last month, Goldberg was one of several WWE legends in attendance, and he became the subject of criticism by Gunther.

After The Ring General told Goldberg he was kidding when he recently called him his favorite WWE Superstar of all time, he also questioned Goldberg's parenting while he was sitting next to his son.

That prompted Goldberg to jump the guardrail and go after Gunther, but security stepped in and de-escalated the situation.

In the wake of that confrontation, WrestleVotes (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported that WWE had plans for Goldberg moving forward, likely involving Gunther.

Goldberg is 57 and has not had a match since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February 2022, but given his status as one of the most dominant and popular figures in wrestling history, a retirement match could be good business for WWE.

While Goldberg having his retirement match in 2025 seemingly rules out Survivor Series later this month, a match against Gunther could be in the cards for Royal Rumble in February or even WrestleMania 41 in April.
