Mookie Betts: Yankees Fans Interfering with Catch 'Irrelevant' in Dodgers WS G4 Loss

Timothy RappOct 30, 2024

A pair of New York Yankees fans blatantly interfered with Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts while he attempted to field a fly ball during the first inning of Tuesday's 11-4 win for the Bronx Bombers, going so far as to pry the ball out of his glove.

After the game, Betts didn't seem interested in discussing the incident and didn't feel it had any impact on the game.

"When it comes to the first-inning play, it doesn't matter," he said. "We lost. It's irrelevant. I'm fine, he's fine, everything's cool. We lost the game, and that's what I'm kinda focused on. We gotta turn the page and get ready for tomorrow."

Both of the fans involved in the incident were ejected.

"I've never seen anything like it," Dodgers rookie pitcher Ben Casparius told reporters after the game regarding the situation. "It's pretty interesting. It was obviously very early in the game so I think it kind of set the tone."

Despite the loss, the Dodgers still hold a 3-1 advantage in the series. Game 5 will be back at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET (Fox). Jack Flaherty is scheduled to face Gerrit Cole in a rematch of the Game 1 starters.
