Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
When
Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET
Watch
ACC Network (WSBK in Boston or WBTV in Charlotte), or live stream at ESPN3.com
Listen
Boston College: 850 WEEI
North Carolina: 1360 WCHL-AM
Betting Line
North Carolina -30, according to docsports.com. Although there's little doubt of a blowout here, this spread is so outsized that even the Tar Heels will have a hard time covering.
Key Injuries
North Carolina F James Michael McAdoo (ankle) is doubtful, according to ESPN.com.
What’s At Stake?
The Eagles would have their biggest win of the season (by a vast margin) if they could pull an upset here. For the Tar Heels, a home showdown against an inferior foe is a must-win to start the conference season.
What They’re Saying
Boston College’s Matt Humphrey is optimistic about his struggling team, telling ESPN, “We’re young, but we have a lot of guys who can make plays, and a lot of guys who can score the ball.”
Tar Heel coach Roy Williams, coming off a 57-point slaughter of Monmouth, understands that his team faces some extreme expectations. As reported by the Houston Chronicle, Williams said that “at least (for) every team I’ve ever coached, it’s hard to be up 20 or whatever at half and expect to win by 50 every time.”
Boston College Player to Watch
Center Dennis Clifford, one of the slew of freshmen leading this year’s Eagles, is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds a game and first with one block per contest. The seven-footer will have his work cut out for him against the country’s biggest and best frontcourt.
North Carolina Player to Watch
SF Harrison Barnes, always a good bet to show up on highlight reels, should get plenty of transition opportunities against the turnover-prone Eagles.
Key Matchup
Boston College SG Patrick Heckmann vs. North Carolina SG Dexter Strickland. If BC wants any hope of making this game respectable, leading scorer Heckmann must put points on the board against defensive stopper Strickland.
Prediction
Boston College is 5-9 for a reason, and they’ll look like it tomorrow. Expect UNC’s NBA-bound stars to make this a laugher well before the halftime buzzer sounds.
