Video: Shohei Ohtani Gets Standing Ovation at Dodger Stadium for Historic 50-50 Feat

Paul KasabianSep 20, 2024

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani received a standing ovation from his hometown crowd on Friday evening after becoming the first player in MLB history to amass 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season.

Ohtani got the job done Thursday in a 20-4 road win against the Miami Marlins, going 6-for-6 with three home runs, 10 RBI, four runs and two stolen bases. He also finished the day as the charter member of the 51/51 club as well.

Friday marked his first home game since achieving that feat, and the Dodger faithful gave a raucous ovation.

Ohtani, who led the game off, tipped his helmet to the adoring crowd before stepping into the batter's box to face Colorado Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland.

Barring rest, Ohtani entered Friday with nine regular-season games remaining. He can certainly build upon his now 51/51 season in the week-and-change left before playoffs as he almost certainly finished out his third MVP campaign.

But Ohtani also has the postseason to look forward to for the first time in his career as well. L.A. can also clinch the NL West for the 12th time since 2013, entering the day with a four-game lead over the San Diego Padres.
