Who Is the NBA's Best Team in Texas?

The Dallas Mavericks are the NBA champions, but it's pretty clear right now that they aren't the best team in the NBA. They've lost too many important parts. The question now is are they even the best team in Texas. 

Last night the San Antonio Spurs dominated the Mavericks, 93-71. It was a game that Dallas was never really in. It was also a game that had the Spurs playing without arguably their best player, Manu Ginobili. 

Based on points per 100 possessions, the Spurs score more points, 108.2 to 99. They give up fewer points, 100.2 to 104.3.

They have a better field-goal percentage, .500 to .454. Their opponents shoot worse, .484 to .508. 

They have a better rebound rate, 51.0 to 46.9. 

On top of all that, while San Antonio isn't particularly adept at getting to the free-throw line more than their opponents or having a better turnover differential, the Spurs best Dallas in both of those areas too. 

In short, basically everything there is to winning basketball games, San Antonio is doing better than Dallas right now. 

It's not hard to figure out why the clobbered the Mavericks Thursday night. They're a better team. 

San Antonio might be the best team in Texas right now, but they have the Rockets closing in on them in their rear-view mirror.
