Gunther's Epic Burn on Bret Hart, Jey Uso Set Up to Fail Again, More WWE Raw Takes

Kevin BergeSep 10, 2024

The September 9 edition of WWE Raw started to build the foundation for the next premium live event, Bad Blood.

Jey Uso earned a future Intercontinental Championship match against Bron Breakker by winning a great main event over Pete Dunne, Braun Strowman and Ilja Dragunov.

Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest were attacked by The Judgment Day again, but they got what they wanted: Official upcoming matches against Liv Morgan and Finn Bálor, respectively.

Gunther continues to mock everyone in his way, including wrestling legend Bret Hart. Sami Zayn came to the aid of The Hitman and again showed The King General that he will not back down.

The Wyatt Sicks also made a definitive statement by defeating American Made in a Street Fight.

It was an exciting edition of Raw, helped by some great in-ring action.

Jey Uso Again in a Must-Lose Situation

1 of 4

WWE delivered a quality tournament to crown the next No. 1 contender to the Intercontinental Championship. And the winner, Jey Uso, is in an interesting position.

Once again, Main Event is one of Raw's most popular stars and in position to finally win his first WWE singles title. He has waited years to claim the big one.

However, Bron Breakker only won the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam just over five weeks ago. He comes off as a dominant star who should remain protected.

Jey is also building a feud with The Judgment Day that will supersede his rivalry with the intercontinental champion.

WWE should protect Main Event and put him in position down the line to capture a championship when the right opportunity arises.

It's likely the company may have already missed the best opportunities to crown Jey, but this isn't the moment.

Time For a New Wyatt Sicks Feud

2 of 4

The Wyatt Sicks win again, and it was the right move. Uncle Howdy and his group should remain dominant in the ring for a while.

The problem is that Chad Gable, Julius Creed, Brutus Creed and Ivy Nile need credibility as well.

American Made has picked up victories over American Alpha, but those wins do not stand out because Otis and Akira Tozawa have not found much success.

By moving past The Wyatt Sicks, American Made can find new rivals with some credibility that will fall to the heel faction.

Meanwhile, Uncle Howdy and Co. need to find fresh targets to be punished for their poor treatment of friends and family.

Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley Feud Must End After Bad Blood

3 of 4

Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley is the hottest angle in any WWE women's division, and the company is keeping the story solid by allowing Morgan to consistently look strong against Mami.

However, the rest of the women's division needs to be pulled up by this momentum. That won't happen as long as Morgan is only feuding with Ripley.

The Women's World Championship should be a goal for every woman in WWE, much like the World Heavyweight Championship for the men.

Despite this, the only woman on the active roster besides Ripley who has challenged Morgan for the title since she won it is Zelina Vega.

Damage CTRL, Pure Fusion Collective and Lyra Valkyria have all been on television each week but expressed little interest in challenging Morgan over the past three-and-a-half months.

After Ripley's latest challenge at Bad Blood on October 5, it's time for Morgan to move on to fresh challengers, building the legacy and prestige of the Women's World Championship again.

Gunther Continues to Show His Value as More Than a Great Wrestler

4 of 4

Gunther delivered one of the best lines of the year on Raw as a dig at Bret Hart.

It was just the latest entertaining moment and delivery from The Ring General, who has been a great heel world champion.

The Austrian may be the greatest in-ring worker in all of WWE, but he has shown consistently that he is an entertainer as well. His confident biting lines make him stand out among the roster.

No one is delivering more often in WWE right now than Gunther on all fronts. It will be difficult to end his title reign any time soon.

Sami Zayn will be a great next challenger for him, and every segment between the two is building anticipation for that match.
