Aaron Rodgers 'Enigma' Docuseries Announced with Netflix Video; Release Date Revealed

Joseph ZuckerSep 9, 2024

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the subject of a new Netflix documentary series titled Aaron Rodgers: Enigma.

The streaming service announced the project will premiere Dec. 17 and have three episodes. The documentary will chronicle Rodgers' comeback from a torn Achilles and provide a look at his life away from the field.

The four-time MVP tore his Achilles four snaps into the 2023 season. Based on the severity of the injury, many assumed his year was over because there was simply no precedent for a high-level athlete to make a full recovery within four months.

Rodgers nonetheless tried—or at least gave the impression he was trying—to get back and aid in New York's playoff quest. While he was cleared for practice by November, he was unable to make a full return.

The appeal of Enigma will likely have less to do with Rodgers' recovery process and more to do with how it addresses his numerous off-field controversies.

The 40-year-old has become an outspoken critic of vaccines. He once suggested late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was an associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He was floated as a possible vice presidential candidate to run alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which prompted CNN's Pamela Brown to recall a 2013 conversation in which the 10-time Pro Bowler theorized the Sandy Hook school shooting might have been staged.

At this point, many fans are tired of hearing about everything Rodgers is doing outside of a football context. His return Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers will at least allow his performance for the Jets to once again become the focus.
