Cowboys' Jerry Jones: Trey Lance Will Be on Roster Despite 5-INT Game vs. Chargers
Trey Lance's tenure with the Dallas Cowboys will extend pass the preseason.
The 24-year-old had a tough preseason finale, tossing five interceptions and taking three sacks in a 26-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. However, it was not enough to faze Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who confirmed to Nick Harris of the team's website that the quarterback "will be on this roster."

Lance was the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He was acquired by the Cowboys during the 2023 season.
Lance became the first quarterback since at least 2015 to throw five interceptions in a single game, per Josh Dupow of the Associated Press. However, that doesn't mean he didn't show flashes of potential.
Lance went 33-of-49 for 323 yards with a touchdown, in addition to 90 yards and a score on 11 carries. Without the turnovers, this would have been a strong performance and other teams may have been interested in bringing him in.
Instead, the turnovers will dampen the glow and make his future in the league questionable. However, Jones' statement shows that Lance still has some believers.
