Tuesday Recap, Wednesday Preview

3 of 3

Pennsylvania was eliminated from tournament action Tuesday, courtesy of Hawaii.

The Mid-Atlantic rep and host team appeared to have a runner in a run-down situation but an overthrow from the third baseman to the home plate allowed Hawaii to go up 3-0. Pennsylvania made it interesting late, scoring one and having runners in position before shortstop Dean Hamilton went down on strikes, preserving the game for the West region representatives.

Hawaii will have to limit the number of runners it lets on base late in games because a showdown with Florida looms large Wednesday in the night's marquee match-up and giving that team too many opportunities will lead to the end of their run in this tournament.

Venezuela of the Latin-America region pulled off a big come-from-behind victory over Aruba, capitalizing on a wild pitch to score the tying run before pitcher Jhonson Freitez walked in the winning run.

The winners of that one will have their hands full on Wednesday as they meet Mexico, who has been quite good in this tournament. Mexico overcame a 4-1 deficit Tuesday to defeat Cuba and advance, proving it has the resiliency necessary to go all the way in this year's tournament.

Florida overcame excellent pitching early on to hang six on New York and send them packing.

Florida vs. Hawaii is the best game on Wednesday's slate of action and very well could determine the winner of the the United States side of things.
