Monday Recap, Tuesday Preview
3 of 3Texas dominated Florida on Monday and inched closer to a berth in the United States Championship game.
The Southwest Region rep thrived on the arm of pitcher Julian Hurst, who threw a complete game while giving up just three hits and one run. He struck out 10.
It was an emphatic performance from a team that has flown under the radar amid the comebacks from Pennsylvania and New York that have kept those two teams in the fight for a championship.
Up next for the squad is a Nevada team that has outscored opponents 12-3, including Monday's impressive victory over the favored Hawaii.
The Nevada team mustered only five hits in their win to Hawaii's nine, something that will have to improve if it hopes to keep even with its opponent Wednesday.
Chiu Wei-Che of Chinese-Taipei blasted a grand slam to put his team up 5-2 over Cuba and the dominant Asia-Pacific squad never looked back.
They will play what could be one of the best games of the tournament Wednesday against Japan, while Cuba looks to keep its title hopes alive against Mexico Tuesday.
Chinese-Taipei has been the class of the tournament thus far and its ability to turn on the offense and drive in the runs makes it a threat to beat any opponent, even a double-tough, resilient team out of Japan.
