Angel Reese Excites WNBA Fans in Strong Start After Olympic Break as Sky Beat Sparks

Julia StumbaughAug 17, 2024

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has done it again.

Reese recorded her 19th double-double of the season on Saturday with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Sky's 90-86 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.

Reese wasn't the only Sky rookie who shone in the team's first game back from the WNBA's break for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kamilla Cardoso recorded 15 points and 14 rebounds in the Sky's win, marking the WNBA-leading fourth time this season the duo have recorded matching double-doubles in the same night.

Reese's 19th double-double of the season comes after the rookie set a WNBA record in July by achieving the feat in 15 straight games.

Reese is now nine double-doubles shy of the WNBA single-season record of 28 set by Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas in 2023.

Reese went 4-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the foul line in the victory, but she stood out most for her defensive efforts.

The rookie pulled down 10 defensive rebounds on her way to the double double, and was also effective as a matchup with three-time All-Star Dearica Hamby.

Reese added one assist and a block while helping the Sky to victory.

She, Kardoso and the Sky return to action on Sunday night with another road game against the Phoenix Mercury.
