Nathan Peterman Lands Raiders Contract amid Aidan O'Connell, Minshew QB Competition

Quarterback Nathan Peterman is back with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders signed Peterman in free agency, the team announced Tuesday.

The team waived/injured wide receiver Keelan Doss in a corresponding move.

Peterman previously made two appearances with the Raiders in 2020 and 2021.

He joins a quarterback depth chart led by Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew II competing for the QB1 spot.

Peterman, 2017 fifth-round pick who spent the first two seasons of his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills, was previously part of the Raiders organization for four seasons between 2018 and 2021.

He spent most of his time with Las Vegas on the practice squad, with the only regular-season completion of his stint with the Raiders coming during a Nov. 29, 2020 contest against the Atlanta Falcons.

Peterman was released by the Raiders in 2021 and subsequently signed by the Chicago Bears.

He went on to make five regular season appearances for the Bears over two seasons. His most recent start came on Jan. 8, 2023, during a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Peterman agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints in May but was released in August after being pushed out of the depth chart by the Saints' acquisition of backup quarterback Spencer Rattler in the 2024 draft.

The Raiders did not add any signal callers in the draft, so Peterman will be competing with undrafted rookie Carter Bradley and former Baltimore Ravens backup Anthony Brown Jr. for the role of third-string quarterback in Las Vegas.

Brown previously made two appearances, and one start, for the Ravens in 2022, while Bradley is joining the organization out of South Alabama.

Both were expected to have a chance to compete for the QB3 role behind Minshew and Gardner. With Peterman is joining the mix, the competition for a spot on the 53-man roster becomes even steeper for all three depth quarterbacks.
