LSU vs. Alabama Rematch: Will the BCS Championship Change Landon Collins' Mind?

Randy ChambersJan 6, 2012

The Under Armour All-American Game is supposed to be a fun game featuring some of the top high school players in the country. Some of them even end up making their decisions on where they will play football for the next few years.

One of the top safeties in this year's class, Landon Collins, was one of those players that waited until he was on national television to make his commitment. He had offers from nearly every major program in the country, but narrowed his list down to just LSU and Alabama.

Although his mom tried her best to convince him to go to LSU, Collins made his choice to go with Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

"I feel as if LSU is the better place for him," Collins' mother said after he announced his decision. "LSU Tigers are No. 1."

Of course, the decision has to be made by the player at the end of the day. After all, he is the one that's going to have to be there and play for the team. Not his mother.

"That's been the thing for me and what I have always said. I felt so much at home at Alabama," he said. "I have so much trust in those coaches and I get along so well with the players. That is why I ultimately picked Alabama."

However, the two teams he was torn between are playing in this year's national championship. Could an LSU victory convince him to change his mind?

Collins is originally from the Louisiana area and would be much closer to home if he became a Tiger. He'd also receive much more playing time early on, considering LSU lacks more depth at the safety position than Alabama does.

Watching Tyrann Mathieu run around and make plays could convince Collins to change his mind. That's what Collins would be able to do at LSU, as he's very effective in blitz packages and loves taking risks on the field to make the big play.

As for who wins the national championship, it's hard to imagine that will play a part in his final decision.

Any one of these teams could win on Monday night. They're both extremely talented, have a great recruiting class coming in and will remain favorites to make the big game again next season, regardless of the outcome in this year's game.

It appears that Collins feels very strong with his decision.

"I actually made the decision two years ago," said Collins. "But I also knew that I had to make sure."

The only hope the Tigers have left in landing Collins is probably his mother, which may not be a bad thing.
