Is Stephen Curry the Next Greg Oden of the NBA?

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is one of the brightest young stars in the NBA today.

When he's healthy enough to play.

Curry's recurring ankle problems are not only threatening to derail one of the best young backcourts in the NBA today, but could leave a big question mark surrounding his promising young career.

This story of a young potential superstar who can't stay healthy sound familiar?

It should, because unfortunately Curry could be taking the path of Portland's Greg Oden.

Curry had ankle problems last year, but coming into the season, the ankle was thought to be a possible issue, but nothing this bad.

The latest setback for Curry came against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. Curry was having a big game with 20 points and eight assists, but had to leave the game in the third quarter after simply pushing off on his ankle.

The end result was another tweaking of the ankle and Warriors fans holding their breath.

You can have all the promise and potential in the world, but if you can't be counted on to be on the court on a consistent basis, then that potential is pretty much worthless.

When he's on the court, Curry is putting up numbers, but he's rolled the ankle three times already and has only played over 30 minutes a game once this season.

We've seen similar problems with Oden, but to a more severe extent.

Oden will never live up to his potential and will always be labeled as an injury-prone guy.

You have to hope that Curry and his ankle aren't heading down that direction.

Unfortunately though, it looks like Curry's ankle problems aren't going to go away anytime soon. In the meantime, Warriors fans have to cross their fingers and hope that they don't have another Oden situation on their hands.
