WWE Legend John Cena Announced for 'The Simpsons' Season 36
John Cena's last ride with WWE will include a detour to Springfield before it gets started.
During San Diego Comic-Con, producers for The Simpsons announced Cena will be among the guest stars in its premiere for the 36th season, per Variety's Michael Schneider.
This is a significant distinction for the 16-time world champion. Bret Hart is the only pro wrestler to be depicted in the legendary animated series. The Excellence of Execution famously bought Mr. Burns' mansion when the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant owner had fallen on hard times.
Cena's cameo will air a few months out from when he'll kick off his WWE farewell tour. He appeared at Money in the Bank on July 6 and announced he intends to retire in 2025.
The 47-year-old laid out his plan to not just show up for the major shows but get in the ring for 30 to 40 matches.
Wrestling fans have long learned to look at a formal retirement plan with a skeptical eye. Plenty of legends have said they're walking away from the sport, only to make their triumphant return later on.
In Cena's case, he hasn't wrestled full time since early 2018 and, his profile outside of wrestling has only grown over that time. He could be the exception to the rule in terms of his retirement sticking.
