Yankees Rumors: Latest Trade Buzz After Jazz Chisholm Jr. Deal with Marlins

Jack MurrayJul 27, 2024

The New York Yankees do not appear intent on settling after the Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade.

Andy Martino of SNY reported that the Yankees are staying "active in trade conversations" and are looking to fill other needs on the team.

"After trading for Jazz Chishom Jr., the Yankees remained active in trade conversations on multiple fronts," Martino wrote. "Upon acquiring Chisholm, the Yanks expected to take advantage of his versatility, but it's worth noting that the positions that Chisholm has played in the majors -- second base, shortstop, and center field -- are well-covered by current Yankees personnel."

Martino listed relievers Tanner Scott, Jason Adam and Pete Fairbanks as players New York has called for, and starter Jameson Taillon was another named floated as a potential trade target.

Scott is currently with the Miami Marlins and has been dominant in the bullpen. He has a 6-5 record with a 1.18 ERA in 45.2 innings. His non-inclusion in the Chisholm trade could signal that the Yankees are out on him, but he does remain on the market and is someone the team could look back to.

Adam and Fairbanks are both with the division rival-Tampa Bay Rays and New York should be very familiar with the two. Adam has a 4-2 record with a 2.49 ERA in 47 innings while Fairbanks has a 2-3 record with a 3.19 ERA in 36.2 innings.

Taillon would be a familiar face as he spent two seasons with the Yankees prior to joining the Chicago Cubs in 2023. He is 7-5 with a 2.96 ERA in 100.1 innings in 2024 and has two seasons remaining on his contract.

The Yankees are 60-45 and own the top Wild Card spot in the American League. New York is just 1.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the AL East lead and the addition of Chisholm should bolster the infield depth.

While this could be viewed as a solid position to be in heading into the later stages of the season, it is disappointing after the team's strong start. New York had the best record in baseball during the earlier stages of the season and entered July with a 54-32 record. The team has gone just 6-13 in July and lost its hold on the division.

The team is at risk of falling further down the standings and replenishing the roster at the deadline could be what is needed to get the Yankees back on track.

The MLB Trade Deadline is set for July 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
