Olympic Basketball 2024: USA Roster, Jerseys, Schedule, Odds and Bracket Predictions

The Unites States' men's basketball team is seeking a fifth consecutive gold medal in France this summer and is widely expected to do so. While the worldwide basketball landscape has shifted dramatically since The Dream Team was assembled in 1992, Team USA regularly remains the favorite.

The only U.S. men's Olympic team to not win gold since 1992 was the 2004 squad. This year's team—headlined by the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant and coached by Steve Kerr—is believed to be as talented as any team America has put together since 1992.

It's a star-studded cast of players and coaches—Tyronn Lue, Mark Few and Erik Spoelstra round out the staff—even if many of the individual pieces are still figuring out how to mesh as a team.

Team USA is, unsurprisingly, a heavy favorite to win gold once again. According to DraftKings, America currently has -500 odds (bet $500 to win $100) to win the entire tournament. Team Canada is the second favorite at +1100. France is close behind the Canadians at +1200.

While Team USA is expected to win another gold, it isn't likely to find an easy stroll through group play or the elimination bracket. The international landscape is littered with high-end NBA starters like

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokić, Josh Giddey, Rudy Gobert, Victor Wembanyama, Dennis Schröder and Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Americans have also generated a bit of concern during exhibition play leading up to the Olympics. They had to squeak out a couple of wins, including a four-point victory over Germany.

"I've learned we're beatable if we don't execute the details of what teams know they have to do to beat us—the extra possessions, not taking care of the ball, fouling too much," Curry said, per Tom Dierberger of SI.com.

Team USA also edged out a one-point win over South Sudan—which resides in Group C with the United States, Serbia and Puerto Rico.

Group play will begin for the U.S. on Sunday against Serbia and Jokić, who remains arguably the best player in the world. It'll be a stiff test for the Americans, even if they're favored by 12.5 points.

Team USA's uniforms, which were unveiled in early July, will be easy to spot. The "home" jerseys are mostly white with "USA" in white letters across the front, navy blue trim around the lettering and numbering and navy blue piping and a blue stripe that fades into red down the sides.

The alternate jerseys are essentially a color swap with a navy blue base, a blue/red side stripe and white trim and piping.

Of course, while it's always nice to look good on the court, fans will care more about how James and Co. perform. The prediction here is that Team USA has a few close calls but still manages to take home the gold.
