Haason Reddick Placed on Reserve List by Jets amid Camp Holdout, Contract Rumors

As veteran edge rusher Haason Reddick's holdout from training camp reached a third straight day, the New York Jets had no choice but to make an official move on Thursday.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets placed Reddick on the reserve/did not report list.

The Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles in a move that was expected to bolster the team's already stout defense. However, things have not gone as planned, as Reddick has skipped the entirety of New York's offseason program, including the team's mandatory minicamp in June.

Part of the Eagles' willingness to trade Reddick stemmed from his desire to seek a new contract. The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his deal and will be making $14.25 million this year after forfeiting a $250,000 workout bonus for skipping the offseason program.

SNY's Connor Hughes reported this week that the Jets offered Reddick a contract extension prior to acquiring him, but he declined it in hopes of earning a more lucrative offer. New York reportedly told him that it would be willing to negotiate at a later date based on how he performed during the season, and he agreed to participate in the offseason program.

However, Hughes added that Reddick instead "maintained minimal contact with the organization" as he chose not to show up at all. The Jets reportedly won't negotiate a new deal until he attends training camp. Reddick will be subjected to fines of $50,000 for each day of his holdout.

Reddick's absence will allow for New York's younger players to see more action during training camp, but the team is obviously hoping that this doesn't persist for too long. With 50.5 sacks over the last four years, Reddick is one of the best edge rushers in the league and will be a major addition to the talented Jets defense when the two sides reach a resolution.
