The key to Derek Jeter's historic success with the New York Yankees may have been his routine.

Anyone who watched Jeter should have known he was a little regimented in his routine. Everything from his stance to the way he walked into the box was almost exactly the same throughout his entire career.

Jeter revealed he even once wore a gold thong to break out of a batting slump.

Whatever Jeter needed to do, he certainly made it work. Jeter made 14 All-Star appearances, won five World Series rings and was the 2000 World Series MVP over the course of his 20-year career with the Yankees. He ranks sixth on the all-time hits list, first in MLB history among shortstops.

The Yankees retired Jeter's No. 2, and he received 99.7 percent of the vote in his Hall of Fame induction.

Whether superstitions work or are just a placebo is up to the eye of the beholder. That said, it's hard to argue with the results in this particular case.
