MLB Trade Rumors: Dodgers Have Discussed Garrett Crochet, Luis Robert with White Sox

Jack MurrayJul 21, 2024

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox have reportedly had discussions for a blockbuster deal ahead of the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Dodgers "have spoken" to the Chicago White Sox about a deadline deal for starting pitcher Garrett Crochet, outfielder Luis Robert and potentially reliever Michael Kopech.

The potential move would bolster an already dynamic Dodgers lineup while adding much-needed depth to the injury-derailed pitching staff.

The Dodgers currently lead the NL West with a 58-41 and appear to be gearing up for a postseason run. However, the team has starters Walker Buehler, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Dustin May on the injured list, while Clayton Kershaw and Tyler Glassnow are set to make their returns from the injured list.

May's injury will keep him out for the remainder of the season, and two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani will also not be on the mound for the rest of the 2024 season. Adding some additional arms to the rotation will be a crucial need for Los Angeles at the deadline, and Crochet is the top arm on the market.

The southpaw is 6-6 with a 3.02 ERA in 107.1 innings in 2024 and earned his first All-Star nod for his efforts. He is arbitration-eligible in 2025 and 2026 before hitting unrestricted free agency ahead of the 2027 season.

Kopech could bolster a bullpen that has had multiple injuries as well, while Robert would provide another strong bat to the Dodgers lineup. He is hitting .232/.310/.482 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs in 2024, but he was an All-Star in 2023 and is only just 26 years old.

While the White Sox will likely hold on for the highest bidder, the Dodgers and their strong farm system are a very intriguing option.
