Caitlin Clark Says She Can 'Over-Pass' at Times After Breaking Assist Record in Loss

Timothy RappJul 17, 2024

Caitlin Clark had a ridiculous game on Wednesday night, scoring 24 points to go along with a WNBA-record 19 assists in the Indiana Fever's 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings.

Not a rookie record, mind you—the all-time WNBA record.

Just another notch in the belt of Clark, one of the most exciting young athletes in all of sports. But she took the humble approach while speaking to reporters after the game.

"I just try to set my teammates up for success," she said when asked what the record means to her (1:50 mark). "I think at times I can almost over-pass, and there could have been a few times that instead of passes that lead to turnovers, I can probably shoot the ball."

Turnovers have been the primary issue for Clark in her debut season, and Wednesday was no exception, as she gave the ball up six times. Given the incredible things she's doing, however, it's easy enough to overlook some of the deficiencies in her game that she'll have plenty of time to address throughout the course of her career.
