Marlins' Dane Myers Suffers Fractured Ankle Injury Kicking Door After Ejection

Miami Marlins outfielder Dane Myers is heading for a spell on the injured list thanks to an unfortunate situation.

Myers was ejected from last Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds for arguing over a checked-swing call in the eighth inning. He told reporters Sunday he suffered a fractured left ankle as a result of kicking a clubhouse door out of frustration following his ejection.

The Miami Herald's Craig Mish reported the 28-year-old could miss six to eight weeks due to the fracture.

The injury interrupts what has been a solid season from Myers. Through 40 games, he has a .265/.337/.422 slash line along with 14 RBI and four stolen bases in five attempts. His 0.7 WAR are tied for fourth among Marlins position players, and his 113 wRC+ ranks second behind Xavier Edwards, per FanGraphs.

Myers made his season debut on April 28 and has steadily become a regular contributor in Miami's starting lineup. Manager Skip Schumaker reflected on how his usage level was going to continue and perhaps even increase with Jazz Chisholm Jr. getting shifted back into the infield.

Myers will now join the list of MLB players to get injured in odd circumstances, while this adds to an already difficult campaign for the 33-63 Marlins.
