Celtics Rumors: Derrick White's $125.9M Includes 15% Trade Kicker and Player Option
The Boston Celtics have fully committed to Derrick White.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported the official details of White's extension with the Celtics. It includes $118 million guaranteed, $7.9 million in likely bonuses, a player option for the fourth year and a 15 percent trade kicker.
The trade kicker truly shows the commitment, as the Celtics would have to pay him a 15 percent bonus if he was dealt away. With the team already set to be over the second apron in the next several seasons, paying that bonus is surely something the Celtics will try to avoid.
White surely earned this security. He averaged 15.2 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 73 games for the Celtics in 2023-24. This helped Boston go 64-18 and earn the best record in the NBA.
The Celtics didn't slow down there, going 16-3 in the postseason to earn the 18th NBA Championship in franchise history. White continued his strong play in the postseason, averaging 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists during the run.
Boston has the core locked up for the near future and will hope to add more championships and carve out a dynasty run. White will be a huge part of that, so the extra security offered is something the Celtics will likely be happy to pay.
