MLB Execs Predict Dodgers, Yankees, Phillies Among 'Most Aggressive' in Trade Talks

Jack MurrayJul 7, 2024

With the MLB Trade Deadline quickly approaching, the potential buyers and sellers are ready to be identified.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that MLB general managers and executives predict the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners will be the "most aggressive" teams at this year's deadline.

Many of the aforementioned teams have been buyers at the deadline for several seasons. This includes the Phillies, who currently boast the best record in MLB and reached the World Series in 2022, and the Dodgers, who have reached the postseason in 11 straight seasons.

The Braves and Yankees have also been consistent buyers at the deadline, and the Padres have made splashes in recent years as well. Both teams currently hold Wild Card spots and have current rosters that are among the best in MLB.

The Mariners have been rarer buyers at the deadline, as the team snapped a 20-year playoff drought in 2022 and has only reached the postseason five times in 48 seasons. Seattle currently leads the AL West, but will have to hold off a furious charge from the Houston Astros to retain the division crown.

While many teams will be looking for reinforcements heading into August, the market may be a little thin with high-end talent, as only five teams are truly out of playoff contention.

Some names to monitor as deadline targets include pitchers Garrett Crochet, Chris Bassitt and Kirby Yates as well as hitters like Paul DeJong, Jesse Winker and Justin Turner.

The 2024 MLB Trade Deadline is set for Tuesday, July 30 at 6 P.M. ET.
