Predicting the Biggest Sports Breakups of 2012

In 2011, some of the biggest stars in sports called it quits with their significant other. Wladimir and Hayden, A-Rod and Cameron, Kris and Kim, Derek and Minka, Kristin and Jay, and very sadly--Kobe and Vanessa.

Some of them are already back together, while others have quickly moved on to new relationships. For whatever reasons, professional athletes seem to always be making up or breaking up. It seems that there's a high profile split almost every month of the year, doesn't it?

Well here are the 12 couples I predict will break up over the next 12 months.

January: Chad Ochocinco & Evelyn Lozada

In January 2012, Chad Ochocinco and fiance Evelyn Lozada announced their wedding was on hold. According to TMZ, Lozada put the brakes on the nuptials because she suspects that Ocho has been stepping out on her.

Their wedding isn't officially cancelled and the pair are due to start shooting their new reality show in a few weeks, but it's only a matter of time.

These two might keep it together long enough to film their reality show, but it's only because of their overwhelming desire to be looked at. They'll probably be broken up for good within weeks, but there's absolutely no chance they'll make it through the year.

February: Maria Kirilenko & Alex Ovechkin

In November 2011, Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin tweeted this photo of him and Russian tennis player Maria Kirilenko with the accompanying announcement, "Me and my girlfriend Maria….she is my queen!!!!"

The couple had been spotted in and around Washington, D.C., and it was reported that Kirilenko was spending her offseason in the nation's capital helping the George Washington women's tennis team.

There hasn't been much written about them since the announcement, but this one just doesn't strike me as something that will last.

The impromptu announcement via Twitter, the lack of sightings in recent weeks and the obvious disparity in attractiveness have all led me to this conclusion. Expect a Valentine's Day split after these "Red" hot lovers burn out.

March: Peyton Manning & The Colts

It's still hard to believe that Peyton Manning might not be wearing a Colts uniform in 2012, but it's becoming increasingly likely that he's played his last game for the team he carried on his back for a decade.

Without Manning in 2011, the Colts only mustered two measly wins all season...bad enough to earn them the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The draft is in April and all indications are that the Colts plan to draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

Manning's bloated contract and questionable health will both factor into to the Colts' decision, and I think that means they're going to unload Manning in March and move on.

Hopefully, their loss will be another lucky team's gain.

April: Kate Upton & Mark Sanchez

According to a report by the New York Post in December 2011, embattled Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has been having Victoria's Secret model Kate Upton lick his post-game wounds for a couple of months.

Sanchize has been spotted in Upton's apartment building on a number of occasions, once with an armful of gifts from a charity event he attended in November.

The couple have been careful not to be spotted physically together, but a source says they are always coming and going at the same time...usually five steps apart.

They make one helluva a hot couple, but the Sanchize is going to have a complicated and turbulent offseason dealing with the fallout from the Jets' disappointing season. Plus, Upton is only 19 years old...teenagers have very short attention spans.

I hope I'm wrong on this one, but I expect an April breakup for these two…if not sooner.

May: Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade

Heat superstar Dwyane Wade and his girlfriend, actress Gabrielle Union, have been together for a couple of years. The pair kept their relationship relatively quiet until late in 2011, when they were suddenly spotted at the beach, out to dinner and on every red carpet in Miami.

In January 2012, It was announced that Wade and Union would be on the cover of Essence magazine's February "love issue." They look hot, happy and totally in love...which means they'll be broken up within a few months.

These two actually got together when Wade was still married to ex-wife Siovaghn Funches, and have been the subject of cheating rumors ever since.

In August 2011, Shaq alleged Wade had cheated on Union with actress Lauren London, just one of many of the rumors that have followed the couple. And it's not just Wade...Union has been rumored to have returned the favor.

June: Alex Rodriguez & Torrie Wilson

Since his divorce, and probably well before it, Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez has gone through girlfriends at a pretty good clip. As of late 2011, his latest lady love is former WWE diva Torrie Wilson.

The pair share a love of fitness, muscles, working out, attending sporting events and wearing leather.

That's probably more than most couples have in common, but history says this relationship won't last more than six or seven months.

A-Rod will searching for his latest rebound girl by summer.

July: Stacy Keibler & George Clooney

Movie star super-stud George Clooney unceremoniously kicked ex-girlfriend Elisabetta Canallis to the curb in late June 2011. By early August, it was reported that Clooney had moved on completely and was dating former WWE diva Stacy Keibler.

The couple were soon spotted at romantic dinners in Hollywood and an NFL football game in Keibler's native Baltimore. Clooney and Keibler even spent the holidays together in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; friends Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber and Alex Rodriguez joined them as well.

The one thing we know for sure is that this couple isn't headed for a walk down the aisle. Clooney has made it clear that marriage and children are not in his future, and Keibler, who is 20 years younger than him, will eventually realize he's not going to change that for her.

As of July, the couple will have been together for 11 months, and Clooney's eye will have been wandering for half that time.

August: Kris & Anna Benson

Despite all odds, Kris and Anna Benson have made their marriage last over a decade...no small feat if you know anything about Ms. Anna. In 2006, Anna actually filed for divorce, citing an "irretrievably broken" marriage, but she rescinded the petition within weeks.

There's no evidence to suggest the pair are in any trouble at the moment, but I'm basing this on what I've witnessed on VH1's Baseball Wives. You probably remember Anna Benson as a sultry sexpot with a wild side...but those days are long behind her.

Today Anna is a bit larger, substantially louder and the apparent victim of some very unpleasant looking plastic surgery. She also adorns herself in fur coats, even when it's warm out, and considers these carcasses the best gift you can buy for a friend.

Something tells me that Kris felt that dealing with this woman was very well worth it for awhile, but he is starting to reevaluate the situation. I hope they make it work, but I think they're heading for splitsville.

September: Brad Richards & Olivia Munn

In November 2011, it was reported that New York Ranger Brad Richards was dating actress Olivia Munn.

The couple had been seen out to dinner in New York and Munn had been spotted in the stands at Madison Square Garden on a few occasions.

It seems things got pretty serious, pretty fast, because Munn and Richards reportedly spent an affectionate Christmas Eve together at a TriBeCa restaurant with another couple.

The relationship was quick to heat up and will be quick to burn out. September is a generous estimate; I wouldn't be surprised if these two called it quits before spring.

October: Hoopz & Shaq

Shaquille O'Neal started dating reality star Nicole "Hoopz" Alexander in Summer 2010. Apparently the relationship was pretty serious, because it was reported that the couple had eloped in November 2011.

I'm not sure if there has been an official confirmation, but MediaTakeout reported the story and Shaq was spotted with a wedding ring. Another interesting tidbit? There was no prenup.

If that's all true, this is going to get ugly at some point, and I suspect it will be sooner, rather than later.

November: Caroline Wozniacki & Rory McIlroy

In November 2011, it was reported that PGA golfer Rory McIlroy was dating tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. The pair didn't try to to keep their relationship under wraps, and have been spotted looking blissfully happy together all over the world.

Maybe I'd be more convinced this was going to last if McIlroy hadn't been blissfully happy with his childhood sweetheart Holly Sweeney just months before hooking up with Wozniacki.

These kids are rich and famous and they're going to have their fun, and they seem genuinely happy together for the time being…but they're both only 22, with schedules that will keep them apart for weeks, if not months, at a time.

December: Jay Cutler & Kirstin Cavallari

In November 2011, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and reality star Kristin Cavallari called off their breakup. The formerly engaged couple announced that they were re-engaged and immediately got down to the business of planning their wedding.

In an early December interview, Cutler had this to say about the wedding plans, "I hear about them in passing or if I have to possibly write a check or something like that, but other than that, whatever she wants to do, I'm on board."

When pressed for more details, Cutler said the hosts were "asking the wrong person."

In total, these two have been together for less than a year; the fact that he's completely tuned out this early is a very bad sign. Perhaps this wedding will actually happen, but I don't expect them to be together for New Year's 2013.
