Mets' Brandon Nimmo Suffers Head Injury After Falling in Hotel Room, Out vs. Nats

Paul KasabianJul 1, 2024

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo will miss his team's road game against the Washington Nationals on Monday evening after suffering a cut on his forehead following a slip-and-fall in his hotel room the night before.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza revealed the news to reporters on Monday.

Nimmo spoke with reporters on the matter in the dugout prior to his team's game.

The 31-year-old has amassed 13 home runs and 50 RBI alongside a .247 batting average and .815 OPS this season.

Thankfully Nimmo was released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. His next opportunity to return to the Mets will be Tuesday evening. Until then, the Mets are shaking up the batting order and outfield.

Center fielder Harrison Bader is moving up to Nimmo's usual No. 2 spot. Usual second baseman Jeff McNeil is heading to left field for Nimmo, and Jose Iglesias is taking McNeil's spot.

Despite losing two of three to the Houston Astros at home this weekend, the Mets have largely been on a tear of late, going 12-4 in their last 16 games to move to 40-41 overall. Nimmo has been on fire during that stretch with six homers, 18 RBI, a .339 batting average and a 1.139 OPS.

Obviously, losing Nimmo is tough for the Mets, but thankfully his injury doesn't appear too serious, to the point where Mendoza told reporters a return Tuesday is possible.
