Under Armour All-America Game 2012: Winners and Losers

Randy ChambersJan 5, 2012

While everybody is caught up in the hype of all the bowl games, there was a game that helped change the future of some college football programs. It was called the Under Armour All-America Game, and it featured tons of the top prospects in the country.

Through the game, several players finally committed to the schools they will play for through the next few years of their football careers.

Some schools walked away better after the game, and some schools will lose some sleep due to disappointment.

Here are a few winners and losers from the Under Armour All-America Game.

Winner: East Carolina Pirates

1 of 4

The East Carolina Pirates had a horrible recruiting class, but got a nice surprise when safety Lucas Thompson gave them his commitment.

He's a physical player at 6'2" and 190 pounds, and isn't afraid to help stop the run or even play the cornerback position.

He picked the Pirates over teams like Miami and South Carolina.

Christmas was a few weeks ago, but East Carolina will take the late gift.

Loser: Miami Hurricanes

East Carolina walked away a winner because they landed Lucas Thompson. Miami is a loser because they didn't get him.

But that's not the only player they missed out on. They also failed to receive a commitment from one of the top running backs in Wes Brown, who went to Maryland instead.

Miami still has an extremely deep and talented class, but missing out on players to smaller programs has to be disappointing.

Winner: Alabama Crimson Tide

Is there anything the Alabama football program doesn't do well? It seems like this team is always winning at something. The Under Amour Game was no different, as they walked away with not one top recruit, but two.

They landed top wide receiver Cyrus Jones, who is a speedster and will help stretch the field. They also picked up top safety Landon Collins, who was considering LSU as well.

If you thought this team was scary this season, wait until you see them with this stacked recruiting class.

Loser: LSU Tigers

LSU is another team that will be good regardless of who they pick up. They have an extremely talented team returning and a top recruiting class. But they also failed to land the top safety prospect, which was looking more and more likely they would get.

No only did the Tigers fail to get a commitment from Landon Collins, but he ended up going to the rival Alabama Crimson Tide.

It's one thing to not get a player, but when he goes to a rival you play every year, you receive an "L" for the day.
