Under Armour All-America Game 2012: Breaking Down All of the in-Game Commitents

Randy ChambersJan 5, 2012

The Under Armour All-America Game is all over with and with that, a few more top prospects have fallen off the board. Several players waited to make their official decisions on national television.

There were a couple of surprises and some expected decisions. One thing for sure is that there are a few teams that are better today than they were yesterday.

Here are the breakdowns of all five in-game commitments from the big game.

Lucas Thompson to East Carolina

1 of 5

Lucas Thompson committing to East Carolina was one of the most surprising moves of the night. Especially when you consider he had offers from bigger programs like Miami, Wisconsin and South Carolina.

The Pirates don't exactly have a great recruiting class, but somehow managed to land one of the top safeties in the country. He's a physical player at 6'2", 190 pounds, and isn't afraid to help stop the run or even play the cornerback position.

Overall, this was a big steal for East Carolina, a team that has struggled in recruiting this season.

Wes Brown to Maryland

2 of 5

Miami missed out on another recruit as Wes Brown decided to become a Maryland Terrapin. This is by far Maryland's top commitment so far, as Brown is one of this year's top running backs. He's considered a Top 10 running back by Scout.com and a Top 20 back by Rivals.com.

Brown isn't a flashy running back, as he's more of a downhill runner. He's 6'0" and over 200 pounds, and is a tough runner with great field vision.

Considering he had offers from schools like Miami, Michigan, South Carolina and Tennessee, I think it's safe to say this is another steal.

Chaz Elder to South Carolina

3 of 5

Elder joins a South Carolina defense that was already stacked. The Gamecocks had a very underrated defense in the SEC this season, as they were often in the shadow of LSU and Alabama. They also have a solid recruiting class this year on the defensive side of the ball and Elder just adds depth to it.

He's a solid safety who can defend the run just as well as the pass. He covers a long range of the field, has great speed and is a very explosive tackler.

He'll fit right in with this tough defense and have a chance to contribute often.

Cyrus Jones to Alabama

4 of 5

Cyrus Jones is a speedster wide receiver who will have the chance to contribute from day one, especially with the lack of great wide receivers on this Crimson Tide team. Jones is very fast and will make everybody's job easier, as he'll stretch the field.

He's a home-run hitter and has a chance to take it the distance every time he touches the football. Alabama now has an offensive weapon at the receiver position that they so desperately lacked this season.

Landon Collins to Alabama

5 of 5

Oh, yea.

Just when you think this team couldn't get better, they do.

Landon Collins is arguably the top safety in the country. He's a physical player, tough kid, has a motor that doesn't quit and is considered a ball-hawk-type safety. Sounds like he'll fit in well with an already stacked Alabama defense.

What makes this commitment that much sweeter is that they kept him away from the rival LSU Tigers.
