Warriors Rumors: Jonathan Kuminga Would Only Be Traded for an All-NBA Player
The Golden State Warriors are looking for a significant piece in any potential Jonathan Kuminga trade.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that the 21-year-old is likely to stay with the Warriors "unless he's needed in a trade package for an All-NBA player."
The 2021 first-round pick had his best season as a pro in 2023-24, averaging 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 74 games. He did this despite only making 46 starts.
Golden State did not have a similar breakout. The Warriors went 46-36 and lost in the play-in tournament. This was the third time in the last five seasons that Golden State failed to qualify for the postseason, but it came during a season in which the team's star players didn't suffer significant injuries.
With this, combined with Klay Thompson potentially leaving in free agency, means that the Warriors could be a candidate to make a splash in order to get back to its former title-winning ways. Any trade for a significant player would likely need Kuminga to be involved, as he is one of the more valuable young pieces the team has.
Still, it looks like Golden State prefers to continue developing Kuminga and maybe giving him a larger role as the team looks to navigate a loaded Western Conference.
