Knockout Phase Predictions

We already know that Germany and Spain are through to the Round of 16, the first two countries to advance. Which 14 teams will follow suit?

In Group A, Switzerland are a point away from advancing, though they'll need to get it against Germany. The Swiss could still potentially advance as one of the four third-place teams, however, so they are in prime position.

As for Scotland, a win over Hungary gives them a legitimate shot to book their ticket to the knockout phase. They'll need a defense that has allowed six goals already in the tournamentโ€”and one that will also be without Kieran Tierney due to a hamstring injuryโ€”to tighten up.

In Group B, Italy are likely a draw or win over Croatia away from advancing to the knockout phase. It's hard to imagine Albania beating Spainโ€”and Italy have a significant goal differential advantage over Croatiaโ€”so the Italians are probably through regardless of their final group matchup. This looks like a group that will only get two teams through to the knockout rounds, though Italy need to be far more convincing against

In Group C, England have hardly looked convincing but also only need a draw against Slovenia to advance. That seems a likely outcome. Behind them, all three teams are bunched closely together, with Denmark and Serbia likely playing for the knockout phase lives.

This group is a toss-up, but look for England to draw Slovenia and Denmark to beat Serbia, though the Three Lions need to clean their act up, and quick.

Group D is easy enough to call, given that the Netherlands and France are already on three points apiece and the prohibitive favorites to advance. The only question remaining is whether Poland or Austria can manage to secure a third-place advancement.

Group E is anybody's guess, with Romania and Slovakia off to strong starts. It would be shocking if Belgium didn't at least make some noise at this tournament, however, setting the stage for three teams to potentially advance.

Finally in Group F, Turkey and Portugal look like the definite favorites to move on after a strong first matchday. The Czech Republic could make some noise yet, but Turkey and Portugal are primed to advance.
