Isaiah Thomas Expresses 'Real Love' for Boston After Celtics Win 2024 NBA Title

Timothy RappJun 18, 2024

The Boston Celtics traded Isaiah Thomas back in 2017 in the deal that brought them Kyrie Irving, and it didn't sit well with Thomas, who had been an All-Star for the team the two seasons prior and averaged 28.9 points per game in the 2016-17 campaign.

But he's since let bygones be bygones and congratulated the city of Boston after the Celtics won the 2023-24 NBA title on Monday night.

The trade that sent Thomas out of Boston and brought Irving in didn't really work well for anyone. Irving left in free agency after two seasons, his relationship with the city of Boston forever fractured in the process. Thomas was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers midway through his only season in Cleveland, and injury issues have kept him from ever hitting the highs he achieved with the Celtics.

He's largely been a journeyman since and has played just six games in the past two seasons. But his time in Boston was undeniably memorable, and Thomas offered the city a classy congratulations on Tuesday.
