WVU vs Clemson: Potential Recruits Should Be Skeptical About Clemson After Bowl

The No. 15 Clemson Tigers should be concerned about their future because they did not have a good showing for potential recruits in their 70-33 loss at the Orange Bowl. The No. 23 West Virginia Mountaineers didn't seem to have any trouble handling what was the best that the ACC had to offer.

Will this result ultimately hurt their recruiting efforts? Glenn Davis of Sportsgrid.com seems to think so.

The Tigers were coming into the game after a convincing win over the Virginia Tech Hokies in the ACC title game. They won that game 34-10, holding down an offense that was averaging 28 PPG. In this BCS game, they just didn't even look like the same team.

It is not like their offense struggled. 33 points is right on par with what they have averaged all season, but the points given up were ridiculous. The Tigers were not known to have a great defense this past season, as they allowed their opponents to score about 29 points per game. They even allowed 45 points to a Maryland Terrapins team that had six games were they didn't even score over 20 points.

What will be interesting to see now is what effect this will have on the Tigers recruiting. They had quite a successful regular season, finishing the year 10-4. At one point, they reached as No. 5 in the rankings. What many realize now though is that they don't really represent one of those elite teams.

According to Rivals.com, the Tigers currently have the 10th best recruiting class coming into the 2012 season. They haven't signed any five-star recruits, but they currently have nine four-star recruits committed. After Wednesday night's game, it will remain to be seen how much they can bolster this recruiting class.

Players have already started to take Clemson off their lists.

Many players may feel embarrassed to make the decision to go to Clemson, and will ultimately decide to take their talents elsewhere.

This isn't going to be good for the Tigers and their future. They had a lot of things going for them this season, including getting the BCS bowl bid to represent the ACC. They had a huge opportunity on the world's stage, but their failure to at least keep the game intact may just ruin whatever they potentially had going for themselves.
